About NIM

The Nordic Institute for Migration was established in Reykjavik, Iceland in January 2016, with participation from all the Nordic countries. It is an interdisciplinary institute engaged in research in the areas of migration, refugees, border control and integration and contributing to policy development in the Nordic countries for the benefit of enhanced Nordic and European cooperation. 

  • promote interdisciplinary research on issues related to migration, refugees and other types of mobile populations.
  • promote Nordic research cooperation in the migration field to the benefit of legislative and policy development in the Nordic countries and for the benefit of enhanced Nordic cooperation at European level
  • provide information and advice to policy-makers, practitioners and the public on migration issues
  • pursue and participate in assignments in European and International migration cooperation
  • organise conferences, lectures and seminars in the migration area
  • organise teaching and other courses in the Nordic countries on migration issues
  • collect and publish comparative data and analysis on migration and refugee issues in the Nordic region
